Movie Review: Thor

So on Friday, May 6, Thor finally came to theatres. I was very excited to see this movie because I had been waiting and waiting and waiting for it to come out for what seemed like an eternity, and, I tell you, it was definitely worth the wait.

The action, the comedy, the special effects-everything was so spot on, there was never a dull moment. Although the movie did drag a bit on the romantic parts, just my opinion, the rest of the movie is just perfect. The score is amazing, the actors are brilliant, the characters develop and you really feel for each and every one of them. It’s not just a straight shot where some guy knows that he’s a superhero and has all this power and then doesn’t change. It’s a story about a man with power who learns that he needs to lose his hubris if he wants to be a great and successful king like his father.

The cast is absolutely phenomenal. Chris Hemsworth is very charming as the hammer-wielding God of the Thunder, Thor. Natalie Portman is very cute as astrophysicist, Jane Foster, and Thor’s love interest. Although I think it’s going to be hard for her to top her performance in Black Swan, considering people are going to compare every role and performance she gets to Nina Sayers, she does do a great job in this movie. Anthony Hopkins as King Odin is brilliant, which isn’t a surprise at all. My personal favorite, though, was Tom Hiddleston’s performance as Thor’s deceiving, power-hungry, mischievous brother, Loki. He brought so much depth to Loki, which made you really feel for him and secretly root for him even when you probably should have been cheering for Thor. If you’re one of the people that are on the fence about this movie, then at least go see it for Hiddleston’s performance. The rest of the cast is great as well, and although I can not stand Kat Dennings, she actually didn’t bother me as much as I thought she would.

If you’re looking for a great movie filled with action, comedy, drama, romance, and a great villain, or just a movie to go see with your friends, or a movie to take your mother to for Mother’s Day, then go see Thor.

And, of course, don’t forget to stay after the credits for a mini preview for The Avengers coming out next year!
